Details of the Artwork

Four contributing parts have been portrayed separately. Voodoo Child (Slight Return) opens with Jimi strumming his muted strings while rocking his wah-wah pedal back and forth, producing a filtered string noise. This wah-wah noise is rendered in pink, orange, and yellow flame.

About halfway back, Jimi’s lead guitar notes start. They are rendered in gold.

The drums are shown as stratified red and yellow rock. The black lava spires in the back left corner are bass guitar.

This scene shows about the first 45 seconds of the song with the beginning in the foreground. This is a Landscape layout.

The purple haze above and brimstone floor below do not represent the analyzed music. Only the 3D shapes represent the music.

Notes about the Music

Expressive instrumental solo improvisations have always fascinated music fans. James Marshal Hendrix was capable of some of the best. His musical powers were almost unlimited. Jimi was fiery and “bad” in Voodoo Child’s opening, solos, and choruses, but his optimism and playfulness come through in later sections of the lyrics. These portraits are of the fire and brimstone sections.
